Is a Solar Power Installation Right for Your Business?
Everyone is looking for ways to reduce energy costs, reduce their carbon footprint, reduce dependency on fossil fuels, and be a good corporate citizen. In order to really capitalize on solar for commercial and industrial applications, you need at least 20,000 square feet of open roof space or equivalent to give you adequate space to create some meaningful power.
A company in Connecticut commissioned such a system last December. Thule, Inc., a large manufacturer of high quality roof racks for sporting equipment and related accessories installed a 317 kW system on about 39,000 square feet of roof space.
The DC photovoltaic (PV) system will supply an estimated 324,800 kWh annually, which translates into approximately 26% of the plants total annual usage. This installation, coupled with the company's substantial improvements in lighting, maintenance and overall operations in the past several years has led to significant energy cost savings and minimizes the company's energy footprint. The company has also been recognized as an industry leader in going green by Bicycle Retailer and Industry News.
One topic I would like to set up as a meeting this spring is
How to build your own SOLAR PANELS and build one at the meeting...Way cheaper than buying premade panels. Let us know what you think......
